Lesson from old people

The old man was mumbling some words to himself, while sitting on an old plastic chair under a Neem tree with his brown eyes staring at the birds chirping on the tree. With his few rusty teeth,  the old man broke a piece of kola nut and he began to chew it meticulously, enjoying it's slight bitter flavour.
A breeze then blew, sending rustling dry leaves from  the tree to the ground but the old man couldn't help it but to enjoy the cool pleasant  sensation the breeze gave him but with its consequences, the birds that were entertaining him all flew away startled by the breeze and causing him to plunge himself into a daydream.
While his mind was busy, he was suddenly stirred from his daydream by a coarse voice  saying
"good evening baba",
he then quickly turned towards the direction of the voice and his eyes saw a young man of medium height, wearing a red polo T-shirt with sun-glasses covering his eyes.
The old man then responded saying
"thank you my son, how are you?" and the young man then replied
"I am fine baba, thank you. I was just passing by before i saw you resting under this tree and i decided to greet you baba"
the old man then gave a weak smile and said
" you have done well my son". The young man squatted while greeting the old man,and as a result of that the old man quickly hesitated saying
"oh my son please get up!",
the young man then got up and in the process, a small transparent nylon containing marijuana felled from his back pocket, and the old man quickly caught sight of the greenish powdered substance tied in the nylon and the young man quickly picked it up putting it back into his pocket as if nothing felled. The young man then said
"i will be leaving now baba"
and he was about to leave, when the old man said
"wait! my son",
the young man then stopped, and he began to wonder why baba called him and he responded
"yes baba??".
The old man then asked him
"my son, what was that thing that felled from your pocket?",
the young man then stuttered saying
"its...its nothing baba?"
while scratching his head and hoping that this old man won't asked more questions. The old man then told him
"please sit here on this log, i want to tell you something"
the young man  then bends awkwardly while positioning  the log before he sat down. The old man then began to talk to him
" My son.. my son all my life i have never had the opportunity you youths have today. I have lived an ignorant life, following what feels good to me. I did this because i want to fit in not knowing i was deceiving myself. The marijuana i smoked my son, cannot be measured in terms of quantity, the alcohol i drank in my life can fill a well with overflow. My son i never did anything important with my life because of this things. All my money was spent on them because of my addiction. This small old house you see, was given to me by my brother out of pity for me because it reached to a point where i cannot help myself anymore. I was eventually diagnosed with chronic ulcer and it almost killed me. Many of my friends died because of this things and to God be the glory i am alive today. I despised school because i thought it was useless and a waste of time. And today i wish i could reverse my life and repair my mistakes. My son don't make the same mistake i made, don't let this things steal your destiny like they stole mine.
I have neglected several advice from people that care about me all because  of my stubbornness . Please my son don't be like me, don't follow this path.
My son a word is enough for the wise"
the young man was troubled, he couldn't believe his ears, he thought about his lifestyle, the ecstatic feeling these drugs gave him and he began to weigh the advantages and the disadvantages in his mind . He then gave a sigh relief, exhaling and he responded
"baba, you have saved my life by telling me these things. All this while i thought one of my friends that introduced me to these things was helping me to enjoy life but i now understand that he is helping me to destroy my  life which can deny me of a good future. Thank you! baba, i will go and tell my friends your story that they might change their ways, just like the way i have decided to change mine" .
As the young man left he pulled the marijuana out of his pocket and threw it away on a heap of refuse nearby.
